We started the 2019 National Retriever Derby Club Championship with 32 of the world's best retrievers under the age of two years old! We had 34 dogs entered this years event with dogs number 33 and 34 being last minute entries. We had one dog scratch – #25 and #5 failed the bitch check.
We started today at 7:34 am with local talent Patrick Wilson singing the National Anthem. Next, the first test dog Madge with handler Sol Semmler was called to the line at 7:44 am. Our first running dog, #23 Pireaux with handler Frank Landry came to line approximately at 8:00 am. The series ended at 10:34 am, which calculates to the test taking approximately 5 minutes per dog to complete.
With sunny skies and wind coming out of the NW at 5 MPH the dog was consistent in this series. The temperatures are hovering in the low 60’s this morning with the current temp at 63 degrees. The big is supposed to be in the upper 60’s.
In the first series we had 5 no birds. All 32 dogs were called back to the second series.
Let’s see what the 2nd Series brings to the amazing young dogs that are competing in this elite event.
