Callbacks to the 4th Series

31 dogs are called back and they are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34.


0 dogs were dropped.

Dog number 17 will start the 2nd day/4th series.

The first test dog will be called to the line at 7:45 am. Followed by dog #17 being called to the line at 8:00 am.

3rd Series - In The Books

At 5:25 pm we are officially done with the 3rd Series and day one of the 2019 National Derby Championship.

We started our 3rd Series, a Water Single, with our test dog "Madge" coming to the line at 2:17 pm. Our first running dog #7 came to the line at 2:37 pm. We had 31 dogs complete this test in roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes. It took approximately 5.5 minutes per dog to complete this test.

The test ran smoothly on this nice fall day.


6. Dickens' Ford Mustang Shelby Don't Care (Shelby), LF, Misty Dickens

Shelby and Misty came to the line at 5:25 pm.

Shelby went down the hill and into the first pond. She crossed the point and the land bridge then went across pond two. She went up the far hill and straight to her bird.



4. Church Creek Abigail Von Duckslayer (Abby), CF, Frank Pittelli

Abby and Frank came to the line.

Abby went down the hill and into the first pond. She angled to the point and then crossed the land bridge to get into the second pond. Exiting that pond she went up the far hill and had a hunt around the guns. She worked her way back to get her bird.

3. Third Creeks Intimidator (Dale), LM, Larry Morgan

Dale and Larry came to the line.

Dale drove down the hill and into the first pond. Going over the point and to the base of the land bridge, he entered the second pond. Getting out and climbing up the far hill, he had a hunt around the guns, but then he worked his way out to the bird.

2. Brett's Kona (Kona), LF, Luann Pleasant

Kona and Luann came to the line.

Kona went down the hill and into the first pond. Going over the point and the land bridge, she got into the second pond where she angled out of it and this put her behind the guns. She hunted to the right and got her bird.

1. Seaside's Got That Itch Again (Ivy), LF, Kevin Cauley

Ivy and Kevin came to the line.

Ivy went down the hill and into the first pond. Getting up and over the point, she crossed near the end of the land bridge to enter into pond two. Climbing out of the pond and up the far hill she went under the arc, where she made a quick right turn and got her bird.

Day One - Series Three Conditions

As we are nearing the end of the first day of competition at the 2019 National Retriever Derby Club Championship here in Sedalia Missouri, our weather has been a great fall day.

Just past 5:00 pm our temps are a sunny 69 degrees. The wind is coming out of the west at 5 mph. The will set at 6:45 pm, which is giving us plenty of day light to complete this third series.


34. Bodell’s Sonic Boom (Boomer), LM, Bob Hayden

Boomer and Bob came to the line.

Boomer went down the hill and into the first pond. Boomer went over the point, crossed the land bridge to entered the second pond the front end. Getting to the far hill, he went up it and hunted to the right, then back to get his bird.



33. Ollie Oop (Ollie), LF, John Stracka

Ollie and John came to the line.

Ollie went down the front hill and into the first pond near the left corner. Getting over the levee and near the end of the land bridge, she got into the second pond. Going to the far bank, she went up the hill and with a few quick turns she had her bird.

32. High Desert Mariah (Breeze), LF, Trey Lawrence

Breeze and Trey came to the line.

Breeze went down the hill and entered the first pond. She went over the point and the land bridge where she entered the second pond. Getting out on the far side she went up the far hill and went to her bird.

31. Watermarks Shadow (Shadow), LM, Bill Hillmann

Shadow and Bill came to the line.

Shadow went down the front hill and got into the first pond. he swam to the point that he crossed and went over the land bridge entering into the second pond. Traveling through the pond, he exited and drove up the far hill and went straight to the bird.

30. Truckee Play It Sam (Sam), LM, John Unbehaun

Sam and John came to the line.

Same went down the hill and into the first pond. He got out and over the point and the land bridges where he entered into the second pond. Getting out of the pond, he drove up the far hill and had a tight hunt in the area then got his bird.

29. Coppertop Four Ways To Sunday (Sunday), LM, Bill Bailey

Sunday and Bill came to the line.

Sunday went down the hill and into the first pond. He crossed the point and the land bridge to get into the second pond. Exiting, he climbed up the far hill and to the bird.


28. Just Watch My Buns (Lacey), LF, Michael Moroz

Lacey and Mike came to the line.

Lacey went down the hill and into the first pond. She took a left hand corner, getting wide left she went over the point into the second pond. Climbing up the hill, she covered the fall area going left and right, then she got her bird.

27. Flyway's The Say Hey Kid (Willie), LM, Luann Pleasant

Willie and Luann came to the line at 4:21 pm.

Willie went down the hill and crossed the corner of the first pond to the point. He crossed the point and went out of the water and on the land bridge. He got in the second pond, when he exited it he went up the far hill and to his bird.

26. Cache La Poudre J.J. Johnston (J.J.), LM, John Goettl

J.J. and John came to the line.

J.J. went down the hill into the first pond cutting near the left corner. He then went over the point and the land bridge to get into the second pond. He crossed that pond, exiting and climbing up the far hill where we went under the arc and deep of the guns. He turned right and went to the bird.

24. Coolwater's Commander in Chief (Trump), LM, Alexandra Washburn

Trump and Alex came to the line.

Trump went down the hill and into the first pond. He then went over the point and the land bridge to enter the second pond. Getting out he went up the far hill to the fall area to get his bird.

23. Coolwater's Cajun Duck Pond Wave Maker (Pireaux), LF, Frank Landry

Pireaux and Frank came to the line.

Pireaux went down the hill and into the first pond. Getting over the point and into the second pond, he exited and went up the far hill to the bird. Very nice job.

22. Coolwater's Little Knockout Slugger (Lucy), LF, Robin Cagle

Lucy and Robin came to the line.

Lucy went down the hill and into the first pond. She went over the point and crossed the land bridge going into the second pond. Exiting, she went up the far hill, under the arc where she hunted left and right across the fall area until she found her bird.

21. Topbrass Pattee Creek Hutch (Hutch), GM, Jim Buckley

Hutch and Jim came to the line 3:50 pm.

Hutch went down the hill, he cut the corner of the first pond then went over the point. With a flying leap into the second pond, he swam and then climbed up the hill to hunt left to right before he got his bird.

20. Watuaga's Ghost Casper (Casper), LM, Stephen O'Connell

Casper and Steve came to the line.

Casper went down the hill and into pond one. He crossed the point and got back into the first pond. Getting out and going over the land bridge, Casper then got into the second pond. Exiting out of it, he went straight up the hill then hunted left and right before he got to the bird.

19. ISR Broke Bad (Smack), LM, Bill Bailey

Smack and Bill came to the line at 3:38 am.

Smack went down the hill and into the first pond. Getting up and onto the peninsula, he crossed and went into the second pond from the base of the land bridge, he went up the hill under the arc of the fall and with a brief hunt he found his bird.

18. Seaside Smart Little Lena (Lena), LF, Luann Pleasant

Lena and Luann came to the line at 3:32 am.

Lena went down the hill into the first pond. She swam past the point and continued to the far side of the land bridge. Getting out and over the bridge, she caught the right corner of the second pond. She climbed up the hill going right to the fall area and to her bird.


17. PepperJack's Hunt The Blue (Hunter), LM, Misty Melo

Hunter and Misty came to the line.

Hunter went down the hill and into the first pond. Going over the point he got back into the pond and go to the land bridge. Going over that  he got into the second pond. Exiting and getting up the hill on the far side, he went straight to the bird.

15. Tall Oaks Communication Interrupted (A.G.), LM, Trey Lawrence

A.G. and Trey came to the line.

A.G. went down the hill and into the first pond. Going up on the point, A.G. crossed it with a flying entry into the second pond. Swimming across that pond, he went up the hill and came in under the arc and quickly found his bird.

14. Spark Your Enthusiasm (Mona), LF, Don English

Mona and Don came to the line.

Mona went down the hill and into the first pond, swimming past the point she continued to swim to the far side of the pond to the land bridge. She hunted behind the guns, then got a little deep, but Mona worked her way to the bird.

13. Watermarks Songbird (Songbird), LF, Mary Tatum

Songbird and Mary came to the line at 3:09 pm.

Songbird went down the hill and into the first pond where she swam to the point and ran across it getting into the second pond. Exiting the pond she went up the hill, under the arc but got deep. She moved to the right and was on her bird.

12. Hyflyer's Running Against The Wind (Breezy), LF, John Lynch

Breezy and John came to the line at 3:02 pm.

Breezy went down the hill and into the first pond. She swam across to the point and went over the tip of it bringing her down to the shore. Getting over the land bridge to the second pond, she swam across it and got out and went up the hill. Getting under the arc of the bird, she covered the area looking for it. This was an extra long flyer.

11. Seaside's Once In A Blue Moon (Blue), LM, Bill Bailey

Blue and Bill came to the line at 2:57 pm.

Blue went down the hill and into the first pond. Getting over the point and into the second pond, Blue went up the far hill then up and around the guns. He worked his way out to get his bird.

10. Seaside's Charming Pirate (Johnny), LM, Luann Pleasant

Johnny and Luann came to the line.

Johnny went up the hill and into the first pond. Getting onto the point where he caught drag back for one loop, he then went over the point and into the second pond. Getting out and going up the hill, he had a few turns to the bird.

9. Waxlakes All Inclusive (Jerry), LF, Forrest Faulkner

Jerry and Forrest came to the line at 2:47 pm.

Jerry went down the hill into the first pond. Going up onto the point and over the land bridge, he went up the hill to the back side of the gunners. Two loops around the guns then he worked his way out to get his bird.




8. Seaside's True Grit (Grit), LM, Joel Enochs

Grit and Joel came to the line at 2:43 pm.

Grit went down the hill over the large point and missed the second pond but went straight to the bird and swam back.

7. November Morning Rain (Rain), LF, Dan DeVos

Rain and handler Dan DeVos came to the line at 2:37 pm.

Rain went down the hill into the first pond, over the large point and into the second pond. Getting up the hill she went straight to her bird.

Test 3 - Test Dogs

Madge and Sol came to the line at 2:17 pm.

Madge went through the first pond along the slope of the land. He entered the second pond and kept a great line out and up the hill of the far shore to the bird.

Doc and Judy came to the line at 2:26 pm.

Doc went down the hill and into the first pond, going over the point he went up and over the land bridge to enter the second pond that he swam to get to the hill where he went straight up to the bird.

Series 3 - Water Single with a Drake Flyer

This test is sitting on the side of a hill facing north. There is a lake at the bottom of the hill. This lake has a point that comes out, then there is water and a land bridge that crosses at an angle left to right. A second pond is behind the land bridge where the far side rises up to a distant hill.

The three-man gunner station is up the far side of the hill, just left of the mat and are shooting to the right at 290 yards. The line to this bird is to go down the hill into the first pond, over the point getting back into the water to swim to the land bridge and go over it into the second pond. Swimming towards the base of the hill the dog will then get out of the pond and have to go to the right of the guns to retrieve their bird.





Recap on the Second Series

On our first day of the 2019 National Retriever Derby Club Championship and we now have completed our Second Series. We started this Land Double test at 11:17 am with test dog Doc and handler Judy coming to the line.

We started this series with 32 dogs. We had one dog with a pick up.

This test took about 4.5 minutes per dog to complete.

The callbacks have already been announced and the only dog dropped is #16.

The third series will start with 31 dogs, with dog #7 being the first competing dog to run.

31. Watermarks Shadow (Shadow), LM, Bill Hillman

Left Bird - Had to re-heel - Excellent line directly to the bird.

Right Bird - Perfect line to this bird as well.


30. Truckee Play It Sam (Sam), LM, Jack Unbehaun

Left Bird - Sam went across the road and into the cover where he got deep and back right. He crossed the road and got back in front of the guns and into the cover to get his bird.

Right Bird - Excellent Mark!

29. Coppertop Four Ways To Sunday (Sunday), LM, Bill Bailey

Left Bird - bird fell short of the cover - Sunday went straight to it.

Right Bird - Sunday came in behind the guns and went out to the green clump. Missing the bird, he got it on the third time down.

28. Just Watch My Buns (Lacey), LF, Michael Moroz

Left Bird - Lacey crossed the road and went into the cover to only hunt deep. She came back to the bird and got it.

Right Bird - She went out left of the guns to the large bush. She hunted deep then worked her way back to get the bird.


27. Flyway's The Say Hey Kid (Willie), LM, Luann Pleasant

Left Bird - Willie crossed the road and went wide left and out of sight. He came back up into the cover where he got his bird.

Right Bird - He stayed high coming in wide left of the guns. He got out to the bush where he hunted deep and in the bush. Willie had stopped a few times and it looked like he found something but it was not the bird. Eventually he worked it out and brought back his bird.

Right Bird - Going wide left out to the left side of the big bush and deep of the guns, Smack hunted an extended area, but then worked his way back to the bird.

Left Bird - Lena went into the cover, and with a few quick turns she got deep. She went back into the cover to retrieve her bird.

Right Bird - She got out left of the guns to the bush. Getting deep of the guns, she hunted and then worked her way back to the bird.

Left Bird - Hunter got wide left going out through the cover. He made a quick adjustment to his line and got the bird.

Right Bird - Straight to the fall area and on his bird.

Left Bird - Tag went out across the road and looped deep. Then he got deep right and then crossed the road. He was going to switch birds but Jack picked him up.

Second Series - Gun Change & Re-Bird **Fun Facts

At 12:42 we had our gun change and re-bird for the second series.

Left Bird - A.G. drove hard across the road and out to the area in front of the guns. He turned left into the cover and was out with his bird.

Right Bird - Going out left of the guns to the bush, A.G. had several loops deep of the guns but worked his way down the fall area and got his bird.
